Some people might say that I drag my birthday on for too long but I don’t know, I just love birthdays! Maybe it’s because I don’t have any memorable birthdays from my childhood therefore now I feel I need to make every one of them extra special.
In view of the above, I try to organise as many celebrations as I can every year. Part of this year’s festivities is a lunch date with 2 of my closest friends from work. I suggested The Vincent Rooms for many reasons, 1) it’s 10mins from the office 2) highly recommended by my friend 3) reasonable prices and 4) we were been saying we’d come here for the last 6 years!!!
Now the interesting thing about this place is that its staffed by the Hospitality and Culinary Arts students from the Westminster Kingsway college. Which means that the next Jamie Oliver might well be cooking for you!!!
The atmosphere is very relaxed and the decor is simple and contemporary, perfect for a work day celebratory lunch.
Elements of some of the dishes can be a bit hit and miss but on the whole this was definitely good eating!!! The menu changes daily so definitely worth coming back to try some other dishes, especially at approx £18 for 2 courses!
Satay Chicken Fillet with Indonesian Salad.
This dish was so pretty, the chicken was succulent and flavourful, the salad fresh and crunchy. My one criticism is that the salad was a a bit hard to eat and I wish they had cut the veg a bit smaller!!!
Crispy Lamb Sweetbreads, Carrots Purée and Salsa Verde
My friend really enjoyed this dish and it does look delicious.
Steamed Pave of Halibut and a lot of amazing accompaniments
There’s a lot more to this dish then I’ve described here as you can see but it’s just too long. I have to say this was delicious, everything went so well together and you can tell that a lot of thought went into this. Again I do have two teeny weeny issues…the fish was a little bit over cooked and under seasoned…
Beef Medallion & …
Again too many other ingredients to mention… This dish was also pretty accomplished. However there were a few things my friends were not impressed with. One of my friend wanted rare but it came more medium. The tempura carrots were a bit soggy and the horseradish sausage was just bizarre! It didn’t really have much flavour and the texture was kinda like cottage cheese.
Unfortunately we ran out of time and had to go back to work so didn’t get to try desserts…:( Overall it was a very good experience and we all agreed that we could come back again. They also offer a fine dining restaurant which I will definitely be checking out!!!
